Ladies Golf at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club
Jane Evison – Lady Captain
It is my pleasure to offer a warm welcome to all ladies and girls visiting the CMGC website. Its official, science has proven that playing golf is good for you; being outdoors in the fresh air and in picturesque surroundings like CMGC improves your physical and mental health.
I have been a member at the Club for 5 years. I joined because there was and continues to be an exciting buzz about the place. It is a place I can relax and enjoy time with friends.
If you are considering joining our Ladies section, you will be made very welcome, and you will find we are a very sociable group. Our regular club day is a Wednesday however due to the progressive ethos of the club we also play in the weekend club competitions. There are also a variety of mixed competitions.
Hopefully, you will visit or even become a new member at our wonderful golf course. Perhaps join us at one of our two Ladies Open competitions.
I look forward to meeting you on the course or even over a drink in the clubhouse.
Whatever the weather or the type of competition, the ladies at CMGC endeavour to have fun. We are truly a special group of women who encourage each other, befriend new members, develop lasting friendships, and support each other when life is hard.
The pandemic has been difficult for everyone, but we have supported each other via regular zoom coffee mornings, online craft demonstrations and organised country walks. Our WhatsApp group also provided much amusement.
Our WhatsApp group enables new members to quickly become part of the CMGC family, enabling the formation of friendships, the sharing of news and the arrangement of games.
Now the Covid restrictions are being lifted we also look forward to returning to our regular social activities which have also included Pilates and Golf Fashion Previews.
Our main aim is to have fun but that does not mean we do not take the game seriously. We are very proud of our members’ successes both internal and external competitions. Our members take part in county competitions, county interclub leagues and friendly matches. Recent successes include a team reaching the quarter finals of the Ping Betterball which is due to be played later this year, excellent performance in the Daily Mail Foursomes, County competition, reaching the Regional Medal Final at Northamptonshire Golf Club and winning the VETS Cecil Leitch competition.
We pride ourselves on being a welcoming and inclusive club. We have an ethos based on mutual support and encouragement which makes CMGC an ideal club for ladies new to the game of golf. We offer new players the option to have a golfing buddy to help them become established in the club, understand the competitions, and provide support while they work towards an official handicap. Sam recently joined our golf family.
“I was welcomed with open arms to the ladies’ section at CMGC, it feels like being part of a golf family, always offering advice and support to help me feel more confident in my game. I really enjoy our Wednesday morning rounds of golf.”
