    John Lacey Open 2018

The last open of the summer season once again saw 30 teams enter all vying for the cut crystal that is the John Lacey Thophy. The conditions on the day were fantastic and everyone playing knew a low score was needed to be in the prizes.

In the mixed section the last mixed team out led by Ian Dorrell shot a nett 60. The overall competition was very tight, Ash Cook and his team held onto 4th place thanks to Lewis Hodges holing out from 165 yards on the last for a 2. They were just pipped by Richard Minchin and co from Cleeve Golf Club. Phil Styles fresh from a lesson with Dave shot a fantastic 54.5 nett which was surely enough to win. HOWEVER the lads from Bromsgrove had other ideas. These love a Texas scramble at CMGC and it showed with a gross 28 front nine to finish on 53.4.

A massive thank you to everyone that has entered all of our opens this season we have had record numbers. Prices will remain the same for 2019 to continue the momentum.

    Course Update

We remain very busy out on the course; with the course now greening back up we are catching up on a few jobs as well as carrying out some aeration work to the greens.

    • Foxes Run’s greens were micro cored and have settled back down fantastically well
    • Bunkers have been edged and look 10 times better
    • Sand in bunkers has been evened out and depth checked for consistent coverage
    • Strimming work – ditches cleared, steps, tee markers, huts, putting green all tidied up

    Club Championships 2018

Ladies and gents meet the 2018 club champions. Played over two days covering 36 holes this requires mental strength and some great golf.

Grant Carbines shot a very impressive 71 on day one to take a nice lead into day 2. However a congested pack of players behind him, were there to pounce if he slipped up.

In the nett David Bessant, Jez Duffield and Jamie Fearnley led the way. However like in the gross it was very tight.

Day 2 was windy but sunny, the scores were rolling in and whilst some slipped away Ash Cook, Charlie Edwards and Ian Downes made their moves.

Jez Duffield however kept his composure to shoot a nett 71 to go with his 65 to take the nett trophy. Grant Carbines who was struggling through the front nine birdie the 10th hole for a fine 38 on Deer Park to take the gross trophy.

Grant added ‘i have been trying to win this for 25 years as a founder member. To finally win is a great feeling and I am very proud to be the champion’.

Club professional Dave Pain had this to say ‘it must be fate in our 25th year two founder members are our club champions. Jez and Grant have seen the club develop and these two are fantastic champions. A big thank you to all who entered and made the event such a success’.
