Fresh from the England Boys Championship in York, Jack Severn won the Worcestershire County Boys Championship at Hollywood Golf Club on 30th July, Jack shot 3 over in the 36-hole event & won by 5 shots, having been joint leader after 18.

The trophy has to be displayed at the winner’s home club, so will be on view soon.

In the championship’s 60-year history Jack is the second winner from Cleobury.

Jack now represents Worcestershire County in The England Boys Champion of Champions event at Woodhall spa & Midlands Boys Champion of Champions at Newark both in September.

    Summer Series

The latest summer series took CMGC to Ross on Wye Golf Club this week. Myself (Dave), Josh and Amy were the team captains with Tom stuck at home working! For those who haven’t played Ross before… you need to be straight off the tee! Both Josh and Amy’s team finished on 76 points, but Amy’s team had a better back nine to secure second spot.

After a recent dry spell, order has resumed with my team back top of the pile. However, it must be said Mark Greenfield, Geoff King and Rhys Short played fantastic and we finished on 86 points in the best two from four format.

A big thank you to Ross On Wye for a great day. If you’re interested in playing any of these, we will be setting some winter dates starting in October at Gaudet Luce. They are a great day out and a lot of fun.

  • President’s Day 2018.

President’s Day is tomorrow, Saturday 11th August. This unique competition gives players the opportunity to compete for trophies over 27, 18 and 9 holes.

Club President Tom Straughton will be on site giving plenty of encouragement to all participants.

Comment below, or call the shop if you would like to play.

  • The Bionic Man Strikes!

The Saturday Stableford was met with some tough conditions for the players with strong winds swirling. This was reflected by the scoring with Gordon Moriaty winning division one with 36 points on count back after a fantastic 20 points on the back nine.

In division 2 it was nice to see Paul Harrison under his handicap with 37 points. Paul came to me Friday for a lesson on irons and hybrids looking to improve his ball striking. It is certainly working with his first under par round in 8 competitions.

The day however belong to Jez Duffield who shot an incredible 44 points! For those who don’t know Jez has been struggling with his golf because of his hip. The consultants said he was too young to have it done, so has been struggling along the last 4 years. Thankfully over the winter he had it done and is now getting his golf back to where it once was!

I asked Jez for a few words as we have worked on his bunker play and wedges and he emailed me this!

    Dave

“Hi Jez - Just logged on to the computer and seen that score in that wind! Hope the chipping went well!! Can you send me a quote or picture for the newsletter?”

    Jez

“Hi Dave - It’s nice to play pain free. I struck the ball solidly the whole round, especially my driver, my chipping has improved since my lesson. I did get up and down out of the bunker (5 on foxes) using just my putter but used my sand wedge out of bunker 6 foxes and hit it to 2 foot from the pin. Unfortunately, no photos as only polaroid cameras were around the last time I won.”

    Well done Jez!
